Good People & People of Faith,
Things have been quiet on the mailing list. Still waiting for another mother & father willing to join me in chalking "I LOVE YOU" to their kids -- and risk potential arrest. I honestly didn't think it would take this long, but perhaps with the onset of Spring some people will come forward.
A few weeks ago there was a 50th Anniversary for the crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama -- people took that risk knowing they could be arrested or even be hospitalized -- and that's exactly what happened. Some pictures --> http://qz.com/358295/civil-rights-marchers-in-selma-then-and-now/
I like the THEN & NOW in the link -- do we expect reform now to be easier. How much do we really believe in what we say? Do our actions speak as loud as our words -- and some people are very loud!
I was a spectator at a Board meeting for a significant Family Rights Organization (whose name will remain nameless to avoid embarrassment). The issue of 'public protests' came up and I was fascinated to hear they really aren't necessary. People find them upsetting and they're really not needed anymore -- we have SCIENCE on our side. Really? Do you agree?
Today is Easter, many of us celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ -- imagine, they just didn't have enough science back then? No need to actually demonstrate personal sacrifice to affirm what was said in words. I wonder how things would be now if he'd had just talked?
The system and laws aren't getting any better and I'm afraid a lot of us have just given up on the chance for real reform. Why sacrifice at all when it just won't matter? A good question.
Still looking for a loving mother & father willing to demonstrate with me!
Best regards & Happy Easter
John Murtari
