NY Adoption Law
If you're familiar with New York law, maybe you can help Melody and her husband (both now living in PA), reverse the immediately-after-birth adoption (Wayne County, NY) of their now two year old child.
They don't have the money to keep the fight up in Court. Contact them via their Facebook page or contact us and we'll give you their phone number. A lot of details, just a brief summary here:
When the child was born they were not married.
Melody has two older children.
Before birth she was thinking of letting this child be adopted, started the paperwork.
While still in the Hospital (immediately after the birth), she was approached by the agency to finalize the paperwork. She was told they had arranged a lawyer there for her. Conflict of interest?
Biological father did not get involved until later.
Custody proceedings went on, decided on "Child's Best Interest". Appealed to the Fourth Department(NY), they just recently affirmed the adoption.
Guest Editor
Many of you are familiar with the Goals & Approach of the group to getting Family Rights recognized and protected. If you have some thoughts you'd like to share with all the group members on reform and how we can make it happen -- please send us your essay! We'll review and post to the mailing list.
“Senators Help Us! We ♥ R Kids”
John Murtari has made some media contacts. They find the Kid's Chalk on the Federal Building plaza interesting, but need more people present for a story. John will continue to be there on Friday each week @ 1 PM thru June & July. If you have some dates that work for you, please contact him and he'll try to coordinate the best date and let everyone know.
IS IT RISKY TO BE THERE?
Some people are worried to even be a spectator as others walk or leave messages with chalk. Many of you have never participated in any type of public demonstration. Your knowledge is based on what you see in the news: rabid crowds, a lot of anger, and the cops arresting everyone in site....
After over 40 of these incidents -- I tell folks to just be silent, don't bother anyone, be well dressed and polite (that reduces the anxiety in others). I never argue with Police or cry about my rights be violated.
HONESTLY, in EVERY case, the Police have gone out of their way to avoid an arrest by issuing warnings or asking me to stop what I'm doing. They've never bothered anyone else just watching -- they don't want media attention.
