Judge Jeffrey Merrill
Supervising Judge
Syracuse City Court
511 S. State Street
Syracuse, NY 13202-2126
Dear Judge Merrill:
I was recently arraigned (Aug 6th) by Judge Young on an allegation of trespass at the Federal Building here in Syracuse. I was threatened with being held in Contempt and jailed if he saw me again on the same charge. I took that very seriously and wrote to the Judge and DA about the history of my actions and the history of dismissals (please see attached letter). I know that you are also familiar with some of the history.
Last Friday, Aug 9th, I was arraigned by Judge Cecille, and even though the DA said he felt all these charges would be dismissed – the Judge told me he was familiar with what happened with Judge Young and he would “set a bail” if he saw me again.
Please, I wish to avoid any hostility from the Court due to misinformation. No disrespect is intended by my actions and potentially those of others as we try to arrange a meeting with Senator Clinton on Family Rights legislation. I’d hope that everyone would recognize the long record of dismissals here regarding “trespass” and that City police would avoid making such an arrest in similar circumstances.
I was not sure that you as ‘Supervising Judge’ could have any role in this, but thought it was best to at least ask.
I hope you are well.
Respectfully yours,
John Murtari
