Demonstration for Family Law Reform Continues
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baldwinsville, New York (Feb 16, 2000) – John Murtari, a resident of Baldwinsville (a native of Lyons, NY), a former Air Force Pilot and Academy Graduate, was arrested again at the Federal Building on Tuesday Feb 15, 2000. He was arraigned by City Judge Merill and a $500 bail was set.
Murtari plans on remaining jailed at the Onondaga County Justice Center until he is released by a judge. This is the 12th time he has been arrested at the building.
Most of the charges from the prior arrests were dismissed by City Judge Higgins one week ago. He had found that the order of protection which had prohibited Murtari from the building was unconstitutional and could not be used to protect a building. However, on Tuesday Feb 8th, the Judge issued another order naming local Congressman Walsh as the person protected. Murtari was authorized to be in the building for “lawful” purposes but could not “demonstrate” or “protest.”
Murtari was surprised the Congressman was named; and he, along with members of his group, Kids-Right.Org, are trying to clarify the matter. He returned to the Federal Building yesterday carrying a photo of his son in what he called “a peaceful exercise of free speech.”
Mr. Murtari is the founder of the Internet based group Kids-Right.Org, recognized as a Human Rights groups by the editors of Yahoo. Made up of both mothers & fathers, they would like to see Congressional hearings into Family Law Reform and passage of the Family Rights Act. The solution the group recommends to this would involve giving the parent/child relationship the same Constitutional protections offered most criminals — the Jury.
The web site highlights the philosophy and experience of both Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, two great practitioners of Civil Disobedience, who practiced a style which showed respect and love for your opponent, while demonstrating your own belief through personal Non-Violent Action.
