Legislative Update - progress in contacting U.S. Senators in both Indiana and Massachusetts. 2. Everyone Welcome - the issue is Civil Rights. 3. Events in Syracuse - delayed till next Monday (Nov 11). 4. Conference in Boston - Friday/Saturday Nov 16/17. 1. Legislative Update - great progress in contacting U.S. Senators in both Indiana and Massachusetts. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Our "hats off" to Yvonne Cook (Vonsck@aol.com) and Rich Eichinger (rae1275@cswebmail.com) for their effort and work in Legislative Reform action. These two parents have accomplished a lot in bringing the necessity of reform before our Federal Representatives. Their approach is simple and in line with the way our Government is suppose to operate -- just get in the car and stop by the local offices of members of Congress. They told them they wanted to discuss Family Law reform and the Civil Rights of Families. They also modified a cover letter we already had, http://www.AKidsRight.Org/actionb_syr/cover2.htm We have done major revisions in the Legislative Action area of the site: http://www.AKidsRight.Org/legislat.htm Check here for details on Yvonne and Rich's activities. Material has been divided by State, with people to contact for more information. We also have a "Contact Kit" to make it easy for you to approach your Federal Legislators. If you or your group would like to coordinate for a specific State that is not represented, please let us know. 2. Everyone Welcome - the issue is Civil Rights ----------------------------------------------- There are many groups out there working for reform. This is not an issue owned or managed by "AKidsRight.Org." Yes, we have a DRAFT of a Family Rights Act we would like to see -- but we are still a long way from a Bill being introduced into Congress. To the extent we approach the issue as one of Civil Rights, we will all be sending the same message. Many of you have been involved at the State level, but we all appreciate the "fundamental wrongness" in the ways our families have been treated by State Government and Laws. We need our basic rights protected. 3. Events in Syracuse - delayed till Monday (Nov 11). ---------------------------------------------------- On our last update John Murtari had been allowed to walk with a picture of children inside the Syracuse, NY, Federal Building. http://www.AKidsRight.Org/actionb_syr He was due to go back today (Nov 4) for another peaceful walk in the building, but will delay till next Monday. A local attorney who is starting a trial this week in U.S. District Court (Northern District of New York) has asked John to be a witness. The case involved alleged City Police abuse of power. The attorney was aware of an incident in which John had been "roughed up" by police and wanted him to testify as a credible witness. http://www.AKidsRight.Org/protest_jm.htm (2/24/99) 4. Conference in Boston - Friday/Saturday Nov 16/17 --------------------------------------------------- John Murtari was invited to make a presentation on NonViolent Action at an upcoming conference in Boston. The group holding the event is called FRONT (Family Right's Organizations National Taskforce] and the specific topic for this meeting is: "Confronting False Allegations of Child Abuse." We don't have a URL for the main group, but we do have one for a local associated group where you can go for more information, http://www.vocalny.org/conference.htm ================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list at anytime, send email to Majordomo@kids-right.org with the following 1 line in the BODY of the message (Subject is ignored). unsubscribe members
